Projekt Karin - ett nationellt projekt för kvinnofrid

Cooperation - the key to success

Co-operation does not mean that all the authorities shall do the same thing. It is very important with clearly defined work roles and that all the different professions know what they are doing, understand their part of the work and how the different parts are connected.
For us, within the Project Karin, it has become very obvious how dependent we are of each other. If some of us go wrong, it will become a problem, not only for the individual but it will also affect other persons´ work. If, for example a woman victim reports a crime, gets a legal adviser but does not get a good psychosocial support, then there is a great risk that she will not manage to fulfil the legal process, to the detriment of the latter.
The result you get from working with these types of crimes depends very much on a well functioning co-operation model.

The entire action programme and its implementation are based on co-operation between, on the one hand, different authorities and, on the other hand, authorities and non-profit organisations. Without co-operation, we would neither have been able to carry into effect  the activities that form part of the work nor would we have been able to implement the efforts.

The authorities mostly concerned with the work (project) are the City of Malmö and the Malmö Police.  The obvious reason for this is that they are the ones who have most of the contacts with the affected parties. The women turn to the police to report the crime. It is the police who interview the men and when children have been victims of a crime, it is the police who interview them.

The municipality or the social welfare authority is the organisation that has assumed the overall responsibility by implementing the action programme, employing a co-ordinator and last, but not least, by creating new services where women and children who are victims of criminal offences, can get shelter and support.

The Project Karin would not have had the same impact however, without a tight co-operation with the rest of the judicial system, the entire medical service - primary health care, children´s health care and emergency medical and psychosocial care, schools on different levels and voluntary organisations.
In their motivation work to support women and men to seek assistance, it is essential that the concerned parties have adequate knowledge of the problems and the possibilities that exist for giving assistance. A mutual trust and confidence are not less important when it comes to motivating in a serious way.
