Projekt Karin - ett nationellt projekt för kvinnofrid

The voice of a child from Karin's

Louise is an 8-year-old child who has accompanied her mother to Karin´s.
Louise´s father has used violence against her mother.
The mother who has just been examined by a forensic expert is now sitting in room talking to a police officer.

Louise looks at the aquarium with a great deal of interest and Gunilla gives her gingerbread biscuits and a fruit drink. Gunilla helps Louise to put on a video game.

When the investigator had talked to the mother, he sat down beside Louise on the low piece of furniture for children. The mother talked to people at the crisis centre for women.
Louise played, she was angry with her father and she worried about meeting him again.
Louise was concerned about her two pets, that she loved more than anything in the world. Suddenly Louise´s eyes sparkled. She had a brilliant idea and she enthusiastically talked about it to investigator.

She said: - I can move in and live with you. When she said this she held out her hands to show the investigator where she could have her bed. Under a window facing the courtyard. - I do not need much space, she said. The dog is so nice that it does not need to be on a leash and I can keep the hamster in its cage most of the time.

- I can call for you directly if daddy is evil and hits my mother! You can come quickly and stop him! The investigator tried to explain that it was not possible to stay the night at Karin´s but it was difficult to say anything against Louise´s energetic suggestions.
Louise pleaded with him and she held one of the teddy bears in her arms to gather strength.

This was an everyday situation in Louise´s life and at the moment she was in a safe and secure place where she felt she wanted to stay.

This conversation has been told by a domestic violence investigator that works at Karin´s.

* The Crisis Centre for Women in Malmö, which is also connected to Project Karin, can offer women and children sheltered housing.
