This web site is principally intended for those who work within the social services, the police, the judiciary and voluntary organisations with domestic violence victims and offenders. On 2 September 2008 the award winning programme in Malmö for women exposed to violence was extended with the co-operation project called Project Karin. On the specially adapted premises at the address Drottninggatan 18, Malmö, women exposed to violence meet the police, social workers, gynaecologists and forensic experts at the same premises. Karin also has resources to support children subjected to domestic violence. Men who are reported to the police for domestic violence are offered support by Crisis centre for men at Karin and youth with honour related problems get support by Embla.
Project Karin is a cooperation project between the Domestic Violence Unit at the Malmö Police, The women´s clinic at Malmo University Hospital, the National Board of Forensic Medicine in Lund and the Crisis Centers for Women Children and Men and Embla, a sheltered housing for victims of honour-related violence. The project is commissioned by the Swedish Government and the idea is that it will constitute a model to be used all over Sweden. After the women have filed a police complaint, Karin will offer them a safe and secure homelike environment, designed to meet their needs. Women exposed to violence in close relationships or to sexual abuse can turn to this place, after they have filed a police complaint, for further investigation, advice and support and for documentation of their injuries. Another important task is to inform about domestic violence and to develop new working methods. Researchers from Malmö Universityand Lund University are following and evaluating the work.Download information about Karin in brief
